Beginning to Intermediate

Ancient Art

  • Duration: 3 – 5 hours
  • Drive from Moab: 30 minutes
  • Season: all year
  • Max. guide to client ratio: 1:2
  • Technical: 5.8+ (or 5.10) easy climbing, big exposure, 325′ (105 meters) 3 pitches

This tower is a great introduction to multi-pitch climbing, and the perfect desert spire for your first foray into the magical sandstone towers of the Colorado Plateau. Right out of a Dr. Seuss book, this phenomenal tower boasts the tiniest and most gravity-defying summit imaginable! Don’t let the 5.10 rating fool you, most of the climbing is no harder than 5.8, with the harder moves bypassed with a bit of direct aid.

What you can expect:

  • A short approach hike through a fantasyland of rocks, hoodoos and giant monoliths.
  • Equal amounts of fun face climbing and interesting crack climbing; moderate but very memorable.
  • Cool climbing on the downright laughable stone pedestal aptly named the Corkscrew Summit!
  • World-class photo opportunities with amazing vistas of the other Fisher Towers.
  • A truly memorable climbing experience with a professional guide

Advanced

Castleton

  • Duration: 6 -9 hours
  • Drive from Moab: 30 minutes
  • Season: all year
  • Max. Guide to client ratio: 1:2
  • Technical: 5.9 with lots of vertical crack climbing, big exposure, 400′, 5 pitches

Castleton is steeped in history and it just may be the West’s most famous stone tower, qualifying as one of the Fifty Classic Climbs of North America. A striking sentinel that overlooks Castle Valley and the Colorado River, this rock offers a choice of two mega-classic routes of the same difficulty (one shady, one sunny). This is a big day with great exposure and airy rappels.

What you can expect:

  • A choice of two mega-classic routes of the same difficulty (one shady, one sunny).
  • Fun, moderate crack climbing on great stone.
  • Unbelievable views 1400′ above the surrounding desert.
  • A big day with great exposure and airy rappels.
