The blend of skills and techniques you’ll learn are comprehensive. More like ascending a long alpine rock route, you’ll be introduced to: multi-pitched style climbing, belaying the lead climber, following and cleaning gear, short-roping, rappelling and lots of fourth- and fifth-class climbing and scrambling.
Many sections are exciting with short stretches of exposed climbing. The highest and most exposed challenges are optional, allowing you to tackle them only if you feel prepared. These trips are unlike any other offered in the Moab area. Geared for small intimate groups who want an engaging, educational and extremely rewarding day!
For these trips, we outfit our guests with La Sportiva approach shoes (a hybrid between regular athletic shoes and rock climbing shoes). The sensitivity and stickiness of the shoes gives one excellent control, mobility, and confidence on the rock.
A few short miles from Moab is a series of VERY LARGE rock features that create our latest, favorite vertical playground. Ascending short, technical climbs, we quickly ascend increasingly higher rock shelves. Once on top, we scale ramps, walk across narrow fins, & ascend modest spires. Occasional rappels drop us to short slot canyons and water polished grooves before we ascend again to the top of another bizarre feature and our next challenge! The rim-top views are amazing! Careful route-finding unlocks access to the fun and mysteries of the rocks.
Mileage is 3 +/- miles. Elevation gain can vary but often is 600-800′ or much higher depending on the groups’ enthusiasm and aptitude. Much of the elevation loss will occur in the form of rappels.
Outstanding! Been coming here for years but always in a Jeep. So glad I got a day to try something new. Heather and Joe are awesome. Thank you!
