Moab Adventure Tour Guide – Evan Clapper

Operations Manager, Rock Climbing & Canyoneering Guide Evan fell in love with moving over stone as a child in North Carolina. After attending high school in Vermont, he quickly moved west to Colorado and earned his first degree in Outdoor Leadership from Colorado Mountain College, logging many days in the mountains in the process. He joined the Cliffs and Canyons team in 2014 with over a decade and a half of demonstrated field-based expertise in leading, directing, and caring for small groups in wilderness settings. His thorough experience shaped his proven ability to maintain high safety standards under constantly changing and difficult circumstances. He has managed and directed every sort of outdoor program from therapeutic wilderness programs to high-end luxury resort adventures. Moab Adventure Tour Guide – Riley Jordan

Rock Climbing & Canyoneering Guide Riley has always been an avid outdoorsman, beginning with his childhood adventures in Mississippi around the forests and swamps of his homeland. It wasn’t until his late teens that he discovered the mountains and desert. Riley soon became consumed with backpacking, fly-fishing, skiing, canyoneering and rock climbing. Soon after completing school and moving to Denver, CO to work as a landscape architect, he realized that working behind a computer screen for 50+ hours a week wasn’t for him.  In 2010 Riley moved to Tahoe, CA to work full-time in the climbing/skiing industry. Executive Director, Rock Climbing & Canyoneering Guide Brett possesses an obvious passion for both rock climbing and exploring the deepest recesses of this amazing desert landscape. Wanting to share his enthusiasm, he opened Moab Cliffs and Canyons in 1999 and since then has introduced hundreds of people to the thrill of vertical play. A native Utahn, he began rock climbing more than 25 years ago in the Wasatch and Wind River Mountains and has subsequently established many routes throughout his home state. Brett moved to Moab in 1985 and began his adventure career as a commercial raft guide, logging thousands of commercial river trip miles while working on 20 rivers in Utah, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Russia, Mexico, and Argentina/Chile.  A kayaking obsession quickly grew, culminating with dozens of Class V descents on many of the classic rivers of the western U.S. and Mexico. Senior Rock Climbing & Canyoneering Guide Originally from western New York, Chris began climbing in 1993. He has climbed throughout North America and South America. Chris has also worked extensively as a whitewater raft guide and is a seasoned kayaker and mountaineer. Additionally, he has logged thousands of sea miles as a licensed captain and professional sailor. On top of that, he has also worked in the field of wilderness therapy, designing and leading courses for challenged and disadvantaged youth and their families. Chris has a passion for exploring the wild places of the world and sharing these experiences with others. She has worked in the outdoor industry since 1993, teaching and guiding everything from rock and ice climbing to desert and winter survival. Rock Climbing & Canyoneering Guide As a native of Oregon, Heather began climbing when she was seventeen at Smith Rock State Park.  She escaped the cold, drizzly Northwest and discovered the warm, desert crack climbing paradise of Moab and Indian Creek in 2002. Heather is a traveler at heart.  In the past, she moved all around the U.S. every three months, often living out of her van or car in search of the perfect climbing weather.  Not being much of a cold-weather person, she has dedicated her winters to traveling and climbing overseas during the winter months.  This led to places such as Mexico, Thailand, Laos, Spain, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Colombia, and South Africa filling her passport pages. Rock Climbing & Canyoneering Guide Since Jerome’s first encounter with climbing fourteen years ago, it has been a driving passion in his life. It has taken him all around the Western U.S. in pursuit of adventures on rock as well as a few international trips. He finds the red rock country around Moab to be some of his favorite and most peaceful climbing. Some of his more noteworthy climbs have been multiple ascents of Yosemite’s El Capitan and a ski descent of the Grand Teton in Wyoming. Moab Adventure Tour Guide – Amanda Smith

Rock Climbing & Canyoneering Guide Moab’s combination of aesthetic sandstone climbing and haunting landscapes first took hold of her on a road trip in 2005, and she’s been returning ever since, until the spring of 2007 when she began guiding here. Amanda’s long-term experience with vertical terrain has given her a strong base for leading people up and down the cliffs and canyons of southern Utah, and a comfort with coaching others through the mental and physical challenges involved. In fact, these very challenges are the fuel for her passion for introducing people to these activities. For years Amanda has been climbing hard technical routes, from steep sport climbing to big walls. Rock Climbing & Canyoneering Guide Scott started climbing in 2000, and his passion for the outdoor lifestyle quickly led to him leaving behind a professional legal career in Missouri. He has since wandered the West. Along the way, he found a love for the perfect cracks and adventurous sandstone towers of the desert Southwest. Scott made Cliffs and Canyons his home in the spring of 2007, and quickly found joy in showing others what he discovered. Scott’s efficient communication skills and sharp wit make all of his guided trips memorable.
